AI drafting and medical recordsReviewed
PlaintiffStack vs EvenUp
PlaintiffStack vs EvenUp: EvenUp's PI demand platform and pre-lit service compared with a California case management platform priced per case.
The short answer
EvenUp is the most established AI vendor in personal injury, with years of demand data, human reviewers and now an outsourced pre-litigation service. PlaintiffStack is a younger, California-only case management platform for PI, workers' comp and employment, priced per case. Firms that want to hand off demand or pre-lit work should look hard at EvenUp; firms that want one system of record with AI inside it, run by their own staff, should look at PlaintiffStack.

Side by side
| What | EvenUp | PlaintiffStack |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | AI demands, medical chronologies and case insight for PI, plus PLAAS: AI with EvenUp's own US case managers running pre-lit | Case management with AI case tools built in, run by your own team |
| Practice areas | Personal injury | Personal injury, workers' comp (applicant) and employment (plaintiff), each with its own phases, pages and case tools |
| California-specific rules | General PI product; no California-specific workflows advertised | Built on California rules: WCAB captions and ADJ numbers, CRD right-to-sue deadlines, pleading format. Other states aren't supported |
| Case management included | Works alongside your CMS (Litify, SmartAdvocate, CASEpeer and others); Companion adds firmwide case insight | Yes: intake, contacts, matters, tasks, calendar, documents, client portal, settlement statement and lien tracking |
| Medical records | Reads records and bills for demands and MedChrons; PLAAS also retrieves records and bills | Reads searchable PDFs, Word and text files. No OCR yet: scans and faxes aren't read |
| Review and citations | Combines AI with human review by design, EvenUp says | Each proposed fact cites the document, page and words it came from; a person accepts it before it lands in the case |
| Pricing | Not published; per-case pricing and subscriptions by quote | $250 per case, every app included. AI usage is billed separately, with an estimated cost shown before each tool runs |
| Contract | Not public | No monthly fee and no long lock-in contract |
| Security | SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA attestation listed in its trust center | BAA signed with every firm; one US AWS account, models on Amazon Bedrock; firm data never trains models. SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 in progress |
| Integrations | Litify, SmartAdvocate, CASEpeer and more; LexisNexis Protégé inside Companion (September 2026) | Microsoft Word and Dropbox live; RingCentral in early access; Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive and others coming |
| Who does the work | EvenUp's AI and reviewers; with PLAAS, EvenUp's case managers handle pre-lit through carrier negotiation | Your own team: agents propose facts, deadlines and tasks, and nothing goes to a client, carrier or court until a person sends it |
Choose EvenUp if
- You practice personal injury and want a vendor with years of demand data and human review behind each draft.
- You want to hand pre-litigation work (records, demands, carrier negotiation) to an outside team through PLAAS.
- You're settled on Litify, SmartAdvocate or CASEpeer and want AI that plugs into it rather than a new system.
- You practice outside California, or need scanned records and faxes read today.
Choose PlaintiffStack if
- You run PI, workers' comp and employment cases and want one system for all three, on California rules.
- You want case management and AI in one place at $250 per case, with no monthly fee.
- You want your own staff to stay in control: agents propose facts and deadlines, and a person accepts them.
- You want to see an estimated AI cost before each tool runs on a case.
What EvenUp does
EvenUp started in 2019 with AI-drafted demand letters for personal injury firms and has grown into the largest AI vendor in the category. Its product list now covers demands (Express and Expert), medical chronologies, case and negotiation prep, a settlement repository, Communication Agents that call providers and carriers, and Companion, an assistant EvenUp describes as a firmwide operating center. In May 2026 it launched Pre-Litigation as a Service (PLAAS), which pairs its AI with EvenUp's own US-based case managers to run claim setup, treatment tracking, records retrieval, demands, carrier negotiation and, optionally, lien resolution. In September 2026 LexisNexis and EvenUp announced an alliance that puts Protégé research inside Companion.
EvenUp says it is used by 30% of the top 100 PI firms and handles more than 10,000 cases a week. It raised a $150M Series E in October 2025 at a valuation over $2B, bringing its total to $385M.
Where EvenUp is strong
- Depth in one practice. EvenUp has focused on personal injury for years, and the company says its model is trained on a large body of injury cases and medical records.
- People behind the AI. EvenUp has said openly that it combines AI with human review. In late 2024 Business Insider reported former employees' accounts that people did much of the work and that the AI had made errors; EvenUp's response was that using people and AI together is a feature that protects accuracy.
- Capacity on demand. PLAAS lets a firm add pre-lit capacity without hiring. For a firm short on case managers, that is a real option.
- Fits existing systems. EvenUp lists integrations with Litify, SmartAdvocate and CASEpeer, so a firm can keep its case management system.
Where PlaintiffStack differs
PlaintiffStack is the case management system itself, with AI case tools inside it, for personal injury, workers' comp and employment. Your staff run the case; agents propose facts, deadlines and tasks, and a person accepts each one. Every proposed fact cites the document, page and words it came from. Drafts like the policy-limits demand letter wait for review, and nothing goes to a carrier until a person sends it. See Draft and Case watch.
It is also narrower and younger than EvenUp, and you should weigh that:
- California only. Phases, pages, deadlines and morning checks follow California rules, such as time-limited demands under CCP 999. Other states aren't supported.
- No OCR yet. Agents read searchable PDFs, Word and text files. Scanned records and faxes aren't read. EvenUp processes the records firms send it as part of its service.
- No outsourced staff. PlaintiffStack doesn't do the work for you the way PLAAS does.
- No track record at scale. PlaintiffStack is new and doesn't publish customer counts.
Pricing
EvenUp's prices aren't public. It moved to per-case pricing in 2025 and sells PLAAS as a subscription. Third-party and competitor estimates put a standard demand around $300 and $500-$800 or more with add-ons; ask EvenUp for a written quote rather than relying on those. PlaintiffStack charges $250 per case with every app included and no monthly fee. AI usage is billed separately: each tool shows an estimated cost before it runs, and how usage is billed is part of your quote. Our guide to AI demand letter costs and per-case vs per-seat pricing walk through the math, and pricing has the details.
Who should pick which
Pick EvenUp if you are a PI firm that wants a proven demand engine or an outside team to carry pre-lit work, especially at large volume or outside California. Pick PlaintiffStack if you are a California firm that wants one system for PI, workers' comp and employment, wants its own people to own the work, and prefers a flat per-case price. Some firms will use both, though there is no direct connection between the two today. For a wider view, see EvenUp vs Supio, EvenUp vs Eve and the best AI for personal injury lawyers.
Questions firms ask
Not one for one. EvenUp is an AI and services vendor that works alongside your case management system, and its PLAAS service can run pre-lit for you. PlaintiffStack is the case management system, with AI case tools your own staff run. It replaces the system of record, not an outside team.
EvenUp's own announcements describe personal injury only. PlaintiffStack ships workers' comp (applicant) and employment (plaintiff) alongside PI, on California rules.
EvenUp doesn't publish prices; it uses per-case pricing and subscriptions by quote, and third-party estimates put demands around $300 to $800 or more. PlaintiffStack is $250 per case with every app included and no monthly fee. AI usage is billed separately, with an estimate shown before each tool runs.
Not yet. Agents read searchable PDFs, Word and text files; scans and faxes aren't read because OCR isn't built. If most of your records arrive as faxes, that matters, and EvenUp processes the records you send it as part of its service.
Pre-Litigation as a Service, launched in May 2026. EvenUp's AI and its US-based case managers handle claim setup, care coordination, records and bills retrieval, demand preparation and carrier negotiation, with optional lien resolution.
