EvenUp vs Eve
EvenUp vs Eve for plaintiff firms: products, practice areas, integrations, pricing, and the status of EvenUp's trade secret suit against Eve.
The short answer
EvenUp fits PI firms that want demands and chronologies delivered and the option of a managed pre-litigation team. Eve fits firms that want an AI system their own staff run, and it is the one of the two that markets employment and other practices beyond PI. EvenUp's trade secret suit against Eve is pending and unproven; weigh it as a procurement question, not a verdict.
Side by side
With PlaintiffStack in the last column, for firms weighing a platform that does both.
| What | EvenUp | Eve | PlaintiffStack |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | AI demands, chronologies and case tools for PI, plus a managed pre-litigation service (PLAAS) | AI system for plaintiff firms (EveOS): agents, nightly case audits, intake and analytics | Case management with AI case tools built in |
| Practice areas marketed | Personal injury | PI, labor and employment, med mal, Social Security disability and workers' comp | California PI, workers' comp and employment |
| Case management systems named | Litify, SmartAdvocate and CASEpeer, "and more" | Clio has its own integration page; the home page names no others | It is the case management system. We move your cases, contacts and documents over and check the result with you |
| Who does the work | Your staff with EvenUp's software, or EvenUp's case managers under PLAAS | Your staff, with Eve's agents drafting and an auditor checking cases nightly | AI proposes facts, deadlines and tasks; a person accepts each one, and drafts cite their pages |
| Medical records | MedChrons and Medical Management | Chronologies; says it has no page caps (10,000+ pages) | Treatment chronology and missing-records report. Reads searchable PDFs, Word and text files; no OCR yet, so scans and faxes aren't read |
| Drafting beyond demands | AI Drafts; case and negotiation prep | Complaints, motions, discovery requests and responses, in the firm's style | Letters, demands, discovery and California pleading paper, as redlines you accept |
| Intake | Communication Agents for carrier and provider calls and texts | Voice intake agent that takes calls 24/7 and scores leads | Intake forms per practice and six stages from lead to signed; no automatic web-form capture |
| Security, as each states it | SOC 2 audited, HIPAA attested | SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA; client data not used to train shared models | BAA before client data arrives; one US AWS account, models included; SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 in progress |
| Pricing | Not public; case-based. A competitor estimates about $300 base per demand | Not public. A competitor estimates $100 to $500 per user per month | $250 per case, every app included, no monthly fee; AI usage billed separately, with an estimate before each run |
| Funding | $385M total; Series E at over $2B (Oct 2025) | $103M Series B at over $1B (Sept 2025), after a $47M Series A | Not public |
| Open litigation | Plaintiff in EvenUp v. Butler Labs (N.D. Cal.) | Defendant in EvenUp's trade secret suit and in AI.Law's patent suit; no ruling on the merits in either | None |
The short version
EvenUp and Eve are both well-funded AI companies selling to plaintiff firms, and both now describe themselves as more than a drafting tool. EvenUp is PI-only and has moved toward doing pre-litigation work for firms. Eve sells an AI system that a firm's own staff run, and it markets several practice areas, including employment. The two are also opponents in a federal trade secret suit, which buyers ask about, so we cover it below with its current status.
Products and practice areas
EvenUp sells demands (Express and Expert), MedChrons, Medical Management, the Companion assistant, Communication Agents and executive analytics. Its Pre-Litigation as a Service offering, launched in May 2026, adds EvenUp's US-based case managers who run claim setup through carrier negotiation. EvenUp says it serves 2,000+ PI firms. Its pages name personal injury only.
Eve (the company's legal name is Butler Labs, Inc.) launched EveOS in June 2026. Its site describes agents that draft demands, discovery and motions and chase records; an auditor that reviews active matters nightly for injuries, treatment gaps and next steps; a voice intake agent; and an analyst for firm-level questions. Eve's site lists personal injury, labor and employment, medical malpractice, Social Security disability and workers' compensation, and claims 1,200+ customers. Its employment page covers charge drafting, demand letters and discovery for employment firms.
If your firm does employment work, that difference matters: EvenUp does not market employment, and Eve does.
Integrations
EvenUp's integrations page names Litify, SmartAdvocate and CASEpeer, plus SharePoint, Google Drive and Dropbox, and says setup has no fee. Eve has a dedicated Clio integration page; its home page says it works with case management systems but names none. If you run Filevine or Needles, ask both vendors how cases and documents move, and whether the AI's work writes back to your system.
The lawsuit, stated carefully
On September 26, 2025, EvenUp sued Butler Labs (Eve) in the Northern District of California, case 4:25-cv-08199-YGR, under the Defend Trade Secrets Act. EvenUp alleges that Eve recruited EvenUp employees to obtain confidential information, and that a former employee downloaded more than 900 documents, including pricing models, customer lists and sales data, before joining Eve. These are allegations. No court has ruled on their merits, and we found no public statement from Eve about the suit.
The case is assigned to Chief Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers. A June 2026 docket entry referenced an arbitrator's temporary injunction against one Eve employee. As of October 16, 2026, EvenUp had filed its reply in support of a motion for a preliminary injunction, which was pending. Separately, AI.Law sued Eve for patent infringement in June 2026, also in the Northern District of California; that suit is also unresolved.
For a buyer, the practical step is to ask Eve how it would serve your firm if a court restricts any product or staff, and to read both companies' data handling terms.
Pricing
Neither publishes a price. EvenUp describes case-based pricing; a competitor's page estimates about $300 base per demand, more with add-ons. Another competitor's page estimates Eve at roughly $100 to $500 per user per month. Both figures are estimates from companies that compete with them. Ask each vendor for a written quote on the same caseload, and ask how cases that never reach a demand are billed.
Which one fits which firm
Choose EvenUp if you are a PI firm that wants work delivered, wants the option to outsource pre-litigation, or runs Litify, SmartAdvocate or CASEpeer.
Choose Eve if you want an AI system your staff run across the case, if you handle employment or mixed dockets, or if you run Clio.

Where PlaintiffStack fits
PlaintiffStack is case management with AI built in, so it replaces the case system rather than sitting on top of one. It is $250 per case with every app included; AI usage is billed separately, and each tool shows an estimated cost before it runs. California PI, workers' comp and employment ship with their own phases, case tools and morning checks, including an employment chronology of protected activity and adverse actions. It reads searchable PDFs, Word and text files only; there is no OCR yet, so scans and faxes are not read.
Questions firms ask
EvenUp sued Butler Labs (Eve) in September 2025 in the Northern District of California (4:25-cv-08199-YGR) under the Defend Trade Secrets Act. It alleges Eve recruited EvenUp employees to obtain confidential information. These are allegations; there has been no ruling on the merits, and EvenUp's preliminary injunction motion was pending as of October 2026.
Yes, Eve markets labor and employment alongside personal injury and other practices. EvenUp's pages name personal injury only.
Neither publishes a price. Competitors' pages estimate EvenUp at about $300 base per demand and Eve at $100 to $500 per user per month. The models differ, so compare written quotes on the same caseload.
EvenUp names Litify, SmartAdvocate and CASEpeer. Eve has a Clio integration page and says it works with other systems without naming them on its home page. Ask both about yours.
PlaintiffStack is case management and AI in one system, at $250 per case with AI usage billed separately, built for California PI, workers' comp and employment. It doesn't read scans yet.
