EvenUp vs Precedent

EvenUp vs Precedent for AI demand letters: what each offered, how they priced, and why we could not confirm Precedent is still operating in October 2026.

The short answer

EvenUp is an active, well-funded PI vendor and the safer choice of the two today. We could not confirm that Precedent is still operating: its website redirected to a domain-sale listing when we checked on October 21, 2026. If you used Precedent's demands, make sure your files are saved in your own system and plan for a replacement.

Side by side

With PlaintiffStack in the last column, for firms weighing a platform that does both.

The short version

People still search for EvenUp vs Precedent because both sold AI-drafted demand letters to PI firms, at very different prices. The comparison has changed. EvenUp kept growing. We could not confirm that Precedent is still in business. This page says what we could verify and nothing more.

Precedent's status

On October 21, 2026, precedent.com redirected to a listing offering the Precedent domain name for sale. A roundup published September 10, 2026, by a company that sells a competing tool, reported the same redirect. We found no shutdown announcement, no acquisition announcement and no new Precedent website. A legal technology directory still listed Demand Composer by Precedent in April 2026, and CB Insights still lists the company as active, but neither shows recent activity.

What that means: we cannot tell you whether Precedent is operating, paused or closed. If your firm uses or used it, contact the people you dealt with, ask in writing for an export of your demands and the records you uploaded, and ask what happens to your data.

What Precedent offered

Based on directory listings and earlier coverage:

  • Product. Demand Composer, which used AI to pull case data into carrier-ready demand letters, with a stated turnaround of about 12 to 24 hours.
  • Company. Founded in 2022 in Charlotte, North Carolina. CB Insights reports about $9M raised.
  • Price. Precedent was one of the few demand vendors to publish per-letter pricing. The 2026 roundup reports $100 to $175 per letter in 2024; a directory listing says pricing was adjusted to case complexity. We could not check a current price.

What EvenUp offers today

EvenUp, founded in 2019, sells Express and Expert Demands, MedChrons, Medical Management, a Companion assistant with Lexis+ with Protégé built in, Communication Agents that call carriers and providers, and executive analytics. In May 2026 it launched Pre-Litigation as a Service (PLAAS), which adds EvenUp's own US-based case managers for claim setup, records, demands and negotiation. It has raised $385M and says it serves 2,000+ PI firms.

EvenUp does not publish prices; it describes case-based pricing. A competitor's page estimates about $300 base per demand and $500 to $800 or more with add-ons. That is an estimate, and it is well above what Precedent was reported to charge.

What to do if you relied on Precedent

  1. Secure your files. Keep copies of every demand and supporting packet in your case files, not only in a vendor portal.
  2. Decide what you were buying. If it was low-cost drafting, compare flat-fee and self-serve tools. If it was turnaround on volume, compare EvenUp, Supio and Eve.
  3. Ask about staying power. A small vendor can disappear. Ask any vendor what happens to your data if it closes, and whether you can export everything at any time.
  4. Check open deadlines. If a demand was in progress when the site went dark, confirm what was sent, when, and whether any time-limited demand or offer is running. Our CCP 999 time-limited demands guide covers the California rules.

Our AI demand letter cost guide and alternatives to Precedent cover options at each price point.

Which one fits which firm

Today the choice is simpler than it was. EvenUp is the active, well-funded option for PI firms that want demands delivered. Firms that chose Precedent for low per-letter prices should look at other flat-fee or self-serve tools, or at a platform where drafting is part of the case system. For a broader view see EvenUp vs Supio vs Eve.

Where PlaintiffStack fits

PlaintiffStack drafts policy-limits demands inside the case, from the case's own documents, with each fact cited to its page and every change shown as a redline a person accepts. It is case management for California PI, workers' comp and employment at $250 per case with every app included; AI usage is billed separately, and each tool shows an estimated cost before it runs, typically cents per run. Your demands live in your case file, and if you leave, we export your cases, contacts and documents. It reads searchable PDFs, Word and text files only; there is no OCR yet, so scans and faxes are not read.
