PlaintiffStack vs Precedent

PlaintiffStack vs Precedent: what Precedent's flat-fee AI demands offered, what we could verify about its status in 2026, and where to go next.

The short answer

Precedent sold flat-fee AI demand letters to personal injury firms. As of October 21, 2026, its website redirects to a domain marketplace and we found no statement from the company about its status, so confirm directly before relying on it. PlaintiffStack is a California case management platform with demand drafting inside it, which is a different and broader product.

Choose Precedent if

  • You've confirmed directly with the company that it is operating and supports your account.
  • You only need demand letters and want a simple per-demand price.
  • You already have a case management system and want nothing else from a vendor.

Choose PlaintiffStack if

  • You need a vendor that is clearly operating and reachable today.
  • You want demands to live inside the case, next to the records, deadlines and settlement statement.
  • You run California PI, workers' comp or employment cases.
  • You want every fact in a draft cited to the page it came from.

What Precedent did

Precedent, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, was founded in 2022; Grant Little is its CEO and co-founder. Its product, Demand Composer, used AI to build personal injury demand packages, and the company described its aim as making bodily injury claims faster and more accurate to resolve. Its pitch to firms was speed and a simple flat price per demand. CB Insights lists about $9M raised.

Where Precedent was strong

  • Simple pricing. A flat fee per demand made budgeting easy, and third-party reports put the fee low against the big vendors' estimated prices.
  • Focus. It did one job, which suited firms that already had a case management system and only wanted help drafting.

What we could verify about its status

As of October 21, 2026, precedent.com redirects to a listing on a domain marketplace, and its product and about pages no longer load. A third-party roundup in September 2026 reported the same redirect. We found no announcement from the company about closing, pausing or moving, so we can't say what happened. If you use or are considering Precedent:

  1. Contact the company directly and ask about support, data access and export.
  2. Download your demands, exhibits and any case data you uploaded.
  3. Check any business associate agreement you signed for what happens to your clients' records.

Vendor risk is worth weighing with any young company, PlaintiffStack included. Ask every vendor how you get your data out. PlaintiffStack exports your cases, contacts and documents if you leave, then deletes its copy.

Where PlaintiffStack differs

PlaintiffStack isn't a demand-letter service. It is a case management system for California personal injury, workers' comp and employment, with AI case tools inside it. For PI, that means a missing records report, a treatment chronology and a policy-limits demand letter drafted from the case file, with each fact cited to its page, plus checks for expiring offers and demands, untouched record requests and treatment gaps. The settlement statement and lien tracking with reductions sit in the same case. See Draft and Finances.

What it doesn't do: it doesn't read scans or faxes (no OCR yet), it doesn't support states other than California, and it doesn't do the drafting for you. Your team reviews and sends.

If you're moving off Precedent and already have a case management system you like, the change is small: pick another demand tool and carry on. If you're also unhappy with your case management system, it can make sense to solve both at once. PlaintiffStack moves your cases, contacts and documents from your current system and checks the result with you, and the demo is 30 minutes on your own case types. Read our guide to switching case management software before deciding, and our guide to California time-limited demands if your demands carry response deadlines.

Pricing

Precedent charged per demand. PlaintiffStack charges $250 per case, with every app included and no monthly fee. AI usage is billed separately, and each tool shows an estimated cost before it runs; how usage is billed is part of your quote. A per-case price covers the whole case, not just the demand, so compare total cost per resolved case. Our AI demand letter cost guide shows how.

Who should pick which

If Precedent is still serving your account and you only want demand drafting, confirm its status and terms in writing first. If you need a replacement, look at the demand vendors in the alternatives list, or at PlaintiffStack if you're a California firm that wants demands inside the case.
