PlaintiffStack vs Finch

PlaintiffStack vs Finch: an outsourced PI pre-lit team with AI behind it, compared with case management software your own staff run.

The short answer

Finch is a service: US-based intake specialists, case managers and demand writers, supported by AI, who run pre-litigation for PI firms. PlaintiffStack is software your own staff use to run California PI, workers' comp and employment cases. If you want to add pre-lit capacity without hiring, Finch is built for that; if you want your team to own the work with better tools, look at PlaintiffStack.

Choose Finch if

  • You're short on case managers and want to add pre-lit capacity without hiring.
  • You want live, bilingual intake around the clock.
  • You want to keep your case management system and have an outside team work in it.
  • You practice PI outside California.

Choose PlaintiffStack if

  • You want your own staff to handle clients and adjusters, with software that does the busywork.
  • You run California workers' comp or employment cases as well as PI.
  • You want to replace your case management system, not add a service on top of it.
  • You want a flat $250 per case for the software, with every app included.

What Finch does

Finch launched in April 2025 with seed funding led by Sequoia and raised a $20M Series A led by Redpoint in October 2025. It is less a software product than an outsourced pre-litigation department. Finch's US-based intake specialists, case managers, paralegals and demand writers handle intake, case setup, insurance, medical records, treatment monitoring, demand drafting and settlement for personal injury firms, with AI behind them. Each firm gets a dedicated case manager, and Finch says clients and adjusters are never handled by AI.

Finch works inside the firm's own case management system and lists Filevine, Litify, CASEpeer, SmartAdvocate, Clio, MyCase, CloudLex, Neos, Smokeball and others. It covers many states and asks firms to confirm theirs.

Where Finch is strong

  • Capacity without hiring. A firm can take on more cases without recruiting and training staff.
  • People on the phone. Live, bilingual intake around the clock, with a person rather than a bot talking to clients and adjusters.
  • Low switching cost. Finch works in your existing system, onboarding takes about a week by its account, and pilots run 30 to 45 days with the option to pull cases back.
  • Reported results. Finch reports a 94-day median time to demand and a 43% average lien reduction. These are the company's own figures.

Where PlaintiffStack differs

PlaintiffStack is software for your own team, not a team you hire. It is a case management system for California personal injury, workers' comp and employment, with AI case tools inside it. Agents propose facts, deadlines and tasks with the page they came from, and a person accepts each one. For PI, the tools include a missing records report, a treatment chronology, a policy-limits demand letter, a settlement statement and lien tracking with reductions. Morning checks flag expiring demands, untouched record requests and treatment gaps. See Intake, Tasks and Case watch.

The trade-offs:

  • Your staff still do the work. PlaintiffStack makes them faster; it doesn't make the calls or chase records for them. Our free medical records request letter generator helps with the requests.
  • No OCR yet. Agents read searchable PDFs, Word and text files, not scans or faxes.
  • California only, and no live intake service.

A useful test: count the hours your case managers spend each week on calls, follow-ups and records chasing, against the hours spent on judgment work. If the first number dominates and you can't hire, an outside team like Finch addresses it directly. If the hours go to finding facts in files, building chronologies and tracking deadlines, software does more for you. PlaintiffStack's Communicate app logs texts to the case, and its client portal lets clients check their case and upload documents without calling the office.

Pricing

Finch prices per case, scaled by volume and scope, and doesn't publish figures. PlaintiffStack charges $250 per case for the software, with every app included and no monthly fee; AI usage is billed separately, with an estimated cost before each tool runs. The two aren't the same purchase: Finch replaces staff time, while PlaintiffStack replaces your case management software and makes your staff faster. Compare Finch's fee against the salary and overhead it saves, and PlaintiffStack's against your current software. Our case management cost calculator can help with the second.

Who should pick which

Pick Finch if your bottleneck is people and you want an outside team to carry pre-lit work in your current system. Pick PlaintiffStack if you're a California firm that wants to keep the work in-house, on one system for PI, comp and employment. Some firms will use an outside team for overflow and software for the rest. See also our personal injury case workflow guide and our comparison with EvenUp, whose PLAAS service competes with Finch.
