AI drafting and medical recordsReviewed
PlaintiffStack vs CaseMark
PlaintiffStack vs CaseMark: low-cost, usage-priced document AI for litigators, compared with California case management with AI built in.
The short answer
CaseMark is an inexpensive, horizontal AI tool for litigation documents, with published per-seat and per-page prices that are hard to beat for medical summaries. PlaintiffStack is a case management system for California PI, workers' comp and employment with AI case tools inside it. Firms that only need cheap, cited first drafts should look at CaseMark; firms that want the case and its deadlines in one place should look at PlaintiffStack.

What CaseMark does
CaseMark sells AI for litigation documents. Its main product is Para, which it calls an AI colleague for legal teams (formerly CaseMark Operator). Para drafts documents such as demand letters and summary judgment motions, finds treatment gaps and prior treatment in medical records, helps with deposition prep and inconsistencies in testimony, reviews expert reports and opposing counsel's changes, and tracks deadlines and new filings. Teams can work with it through email, Microsoft Teams, Slack or the web app. CaseMark also runs Source, a court reporting product.
CaseMark raised a $1.7M seed round in June 2024 led by Gradient Ventures. It is horizontal: its medical chronology page names personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, workers' comp and disability work.
Where CaseMark is strong
- Price. CaseMark publishes its prices, and they're low. Para starts at $20 per seat a month, and a medical summary costs $25 plus a cent a page, capped at $100 for up to 25,000 pages.
- Speed at volume. CaseMark says it can process record sets of 100,000 pages or more in about thirty minutes, while noting that end-to-end time depends on record quality and your team's review.
- Honest about review. CaseMark says its drafts are cited first drafts and don't replace final human review.
- Security on paid plans. SOC 2 Type II audited and HIPAA, with a BAA available on annual Pro and Enterprise plans and no training on customer data for those plans.
Where PlaintiffStack differs
PlaintiffStack is a case management system for plaintiff firms, not a general document tool. Intake, contacts, matters, tasks, the calendar, documents, the client portal, the settlement statement and lien tracking are in the same product as the AI case tools. That means the chronology, the demand and the deadlines all work from the same case record. See Documents and Draft.
It's built for three practices on California rules: PI (missing records report, treatment chronology, policy-limits demand, checks for expiring demands and treatment gaps), workers' comp (benefits audit, QME cover letter and records index, IMR deadline checks) and employment (legal chronology, wage and penalty audit, right-to-sue deadline checks). Every proposed fact cites its document, page and words, and a person accepts it. PlaintiffStack signs a BAA with every firm before client data arrives, on any plan.
Where CaseMark is ahead:
- Cost per summary. If all you need is a cited medical summary, CaseMark's published price is very low.
- Breadth. CaseMark works across practices and states; PlaintiffStack supports California only.
- Scanned records. PlaintiffStack has no OCR yet: scans and faxes aren't read.
- SOC 2. CaseMark states SOC 2 Type II; PlaintiffStack's is in progress, with no report yet.
Pricing
CaseMark: Para at $20 or $100 per seat a month, with seat fees credited to a usage wallet and extra usage at cost; medical summaries at $25 plus $0.01 a page, capped at $100 up to 25,000 pages. PlaintiffStack: $250 per case with every app included and no monthly fee; AI usage is billed separately, with an estimated cost before each tool runs. CaseMark doesn't include case management, so add your CMS to its cost when comparing. See medical chronology software and our case management cost calculator.
Who should pick which
Pick CaseMark if you want low-cost, cited first drafts and summaries alongside the case management system you already use, or you litigate across many practices and states. Pick PlaintiffStack if you're a California plaintiff firm that wants the system of record, its deadlines and its AI tools in one place.
Some firms will use both: CaseMark for quick summaries on matters outside California or before a case is signed, and a case system for everything after. If you go that way, decide which system holds the final chronology, so your team isn't checking two versions of the same record.
Questions firms ask
For a single medical summary, almost certainly: CaseMark charges $25 plus $0.01 a page, capped at $100. But CaseMark doesn't include case management. PlaintiffStack is $250 per case for the whole system, with AI usage billed separately.
Yes, on annual Pro and Enterprise plans, per its site. PlaintiffStack signs a BAA with every firm before any client data arrives.
CaseMark advises making scans searchable where practical and lists scan quality as a factor in preparation time. PlaintiffStack doesn't read scans or faxes yet because it has no OCR.
As separate tools, yes. CaseMark lists Clio, Smokeball, Google Drive and Microsoft 365, not PlaintiffStack, so documents would move by upload.
