Case Status vs Hona
Case Status vs Hona for client updates: branded app vs AI outreach, practice areas, case management integrations, AI and pricing.
The short answer
Case Status fits firms across many practices, workers' comp included, that want a branded client app with messaging, translation, satisfaction scores and review requests, on top of almost any case management system. Hona fits PI firms that want an AI agent to check in with clients about treatment and flag gaps for staff. Both sell by demo; get pricing in writing.

The short version
Case Status and Hona both cut down the "what's happening with my case" calls that eat a case manager's day. They start from different places. Case Status gives clients a branded app and gives the firm messaging, translation and feedback tools across many practices. Hona focuses on PI and leads with an AI agent that checks in with clients about treatment and flags problems for staff.
Case Status
Case Status describes itself as client engagement software that connects to a firm's case management system. Clients get a branded mobile app, entered from a text message without passwords, showing case status, documents and embedded videos. Messages and documents file back into the case system. Its AI translates client messages, summarizes cases, suggests replies for staff to review, tracks client sentiment and triages messages. It asks satisfaction questions tied to Net Promoter Score and sends promoters to Google reviews and referral requests.
It markets PI, workers' comp, immigration, employment, disability, mass tort, estate planning and criminal practices, and names a long list of case management integrations: Clio, MyCase, Filevine, SmartAdvocate, Neos, Litify, CASEpeer, Smokeball, Salesforce, Docketwise, PracticePanther, CoCounselor and MerusCase. The MerusCase link and its WC practice page make it one of the few client tools aimed at comp firms. It cites 500+ firms (600+ elsewhere on the same page) and over one million clients.
Hona
Hona describes itself as an AI case management platform for personal injury firms. Its AI agent, Lia, coordinates appointments, sends reminders and follow-ups, captures treatment details after visits, and flags missed appointments and treatment gaps, escalating to staff under rules the firm sets. It offers two-way messaging and mentions a client portal. PI is its focus, though it also lists workers' comp, mass tort, employment and other practices.
Hona's integrations page names Filevine, Clio, MyCase, CASEpeer, SmartAdvocate, Litify, Neos, Smokeball, Salesforce, PracticePanther and Lead Docket, among others. It cites 500+ PI firms and lists HIPAA, TCPA and SOC 2 Type II.
How they differ in practice
- Breadth vs depth. Case Status covers more practices and more of the client relationship (app, translation, NPS, reviews). Hona goes deeper on one PI problem: keeping clients in treatment and on schedule.
- Who talks to the client. Case Status gives staff tools and AI suggestions. Hona's agent reaches out to clients itself and escalates.
- Reviews. Case Status builds in satisfaction scoring and review requests; Hona's home page does not describe review requests.
Neither publishes prices. Both route pricing through a demo.
Which one fits which firm
Choose Case Status if you run several practices, especially workers' comp or immigration, serve clients who need translation, or want satisfaction scores and review requests tied to your case system.
Choose Hona if you are a PI firm whose biggest leak is clients missing appointments or falling out of treatment, and you want an agent doing the check-ins.
Questions to ask either vendor:
- What exactly does a client see, and in which languages?
- What does the AI send on its own, and what waits for a person? How are texting consent and opt-outs handled?
- What writes back to our case management system, and where does it land?
- How do you measure fewer status calls, and can a firm our size show us its numbers?
- What does it cost for our caseload, and is it priced per user, per client or per case?
Where PlaintiffStack fits
PlaintiffStack puts client updates inside case management rather than in a separate tool. Each client gets a private portal from a link in any phone browser, in your firm's colors, with no app or account, showing the case stage in plain words, uploads and forms. Texts go out from the firm's numbers and are logged to the case. Resolved cases can enroll clients in review requests by text, call or both, with the same link for every client. PI morning checks flag treatment gaps, but messages go out only when a person sends them; there is no autonomous outreach agent. It is $250 per case with every app included; AI usage is billed separately.
