Case managementReviewed

PlaintiffStack vs CasePeer

PlaintiffStack vs 8am CasePeer: preconfigured PI case management from $90 per user, or one California plaintiff record at $250 per case.

The short answer

8am CasePeer is a straightforward, PI-only system with published prices, no long-term contract and PI tools such as settlement negotiations, treatment tracking and statute alerts, backed by the company behind MyCase and LawPay. PlaintiffStack adds California workers' comp and employment, page-cited AI case tools and a per-case price, but it has fewer integrations and no trust tracking. A PI-only firm that wants simple and proven may prefer CasePeer.

Choose CasePeer if

  • You run only personal injury and want PI workflows that work on day one with little setup.
  • You want a known per-user price and no long-term contract.
  • You want client trust tracking and LawPay payments alongside your cases.
  • You already use EvenUp or another partner for demands and want a case system that connects to it.

Choose PlaintiffStack if

  • Your firm also handles California workers' comp or employment cases.
  • You want chronologies, missing records reports and demands built in, citing the page each fact came from, rather than bought from a partner.
  • Your caseload per person is low enough that $250 per case beats per-user pricing, or you want price to track intake rather than headcount.
  • You want morning checks for expiring offers, untouched record requests and treatment gaps.

Two simple PI systems with different scope

8am CasePeer is case management built only for personal injury. It is owned by 8am, the company formerly called AffiniPay, which also makes MyCase and LawPay and rebranded under the 8am name in August 2025. CasePeer's promise is that PI workflows, reports and case stages are preconfigured, so a firm without IT staff can start quickly.

PlaintiffStack shares that goal of working out of the box, but it covers three practices, all on California rules: personal injury, workers' comp and employment. Its AI case tools live on the same record as the case.

What CasePeer does well

  • Published prices and terms. Basic $90, Pro $130 and Advanced $160 per user per month, with no long-term contract or setup fee. That is rare in this market.
  • PI essentials. Statute alerts, medical treatment tracking, settlement negotiations, case expense tracking and client trust tracking come in the base plan.
  • Client contact. A client portal in every plan, and unlimited two-way texting, including images, from Pro.
  • Reports. Pro adds a high-value cases report, a medical requests report and dozens more; Advanced adds multi-office reporting and case grades.
  • Support. Guided implementation, data migration and free training are listed in its plans.

For a PI-only firm that wants a proven, simple system and a predictable bill, CasePeer is a sensible choice. For how it compares with a heavier platform, see Filevine vs CasePeer.

Where PlaintiffStack differs

AI case tools built in. CasePeer's built-in AI, 8am IQ, is writing assistance. Medical chronologies and demands come from partners such as EvenUp, priced separately. PlaintiffStack's PI cases include a missing records report, a treatment chronology and a policy-limits demand, each citing the document and page every fact came from. Each run shows an estimated cost first, typically cents, and usage is billed separately as part of your quote.

More than PI. PlaintiffStack's comp cases include a benefits audit, QME and WCAB pages and IMR deadline checks; employment cases include a legal chronology, a wage and penalty audit and right-to-sue deadline checks. CasePeer covers PI only.

Checks every morning. PlaintiffStack flags offers and demands about to expire, record requests untouched for three weeks, and gaps forming in treatment, so a case manager starts the day with the cases that need attention.

Where CasePeer is ahead. It has more integrations, an API, client trust tracking and LawPay payments. PlaintiffStack has no trust accounting, Word and Dropbox are its live integrations, and it can't read scanned records or faxes yet.

Price compared

CasePeer charges per user; PlaintiffStack charges $250 per case with every app included and no monthly fee. A ten-person firm on CasePeer Pro pays $130 x 10 x 12, or $15,600 a year, before any demand or chronology partner. The same firm opening 100 cases a year on PlaintiffStack pays $25,000, plus AI usage. A leaner firm opening fewer cases per person comes out closer. The honest answer depends on your numbers: use the cost calculator and read per-case vs per-seat pricing.

Switching

Both vendors move your data. PlaintiffStack moves your cases, contacts and documents and checks the result with you before you switch. If you're comparing PI systems broadly, the PI case management buyer's guide covers what to test in a demo.

What to test in a demo

Bring three real files: one in treatment, one ready for a demand, and one in negotiation. On each system, ask to see:

  • how missing records and treatment gaps are spotted;
  • how a chronology or demand is produced, and where each fact comes from;
  • how the client sees progress, and how texts land on the case;
  • what the settlement statement looks like, with the fee and lien reductions.

If CasePeer covers your work and your team likes it, the published price and no-contract terms are a good reason to stay. If your firm takes comp or employment cases, or you want the AI case tools in the product, PlaintiffStack is worth the thirty minutes.
