Litify vs SmartAdvocate

Litify vs SmartAdvocate for high-volume plaintiff firms: Salesforce vs configurable modules, AI, practice coverage, deployment and pricing.

The short answer

Litify fits larger PI firms that want Salesforce underneath and Supio-powered demands inside the case. SmartAdvocate fits high-volume firms with several plaintiff practices, including workers' comp and Social Security, that want deep configuration and the option to host on their own server. Both are quote-based enterprise systems; budget for implementation and an administrator.

Side by side

With PlaintiffStack in the last column, for firms weighing a platform that does both.

The short version

Litify and SmartAdvocate are both built for firms that run a lot of cases with a lot of staff. They are also the two case management systems named on the integration pages of both EvenUp and Supio, the largest plaintiff AI vendors. The choice comes down to foundation and breadth: Litify runs on Salesforce; SmartAdvocate is its own deeply configurable system with modules for many plaintiff practices.

Foundations and practice coverage

Litify was founded in 2016 by John Morgan and Reuven Moskowitz and has been majority owned by Bessemer Venture Partners since 2023, when it reported serving 45,000+ legal professionals. It describes a Salesforce-powered foundation. That brings Salesforce's reporting, automation and permissions, a large pool of Salesforce admins and consultants, and the cost and complexity of running a Salesforce org.

SmartAdvocate describes itself as built for high-volume litigation, cites 20,000+ legal professionals and 175+ integrations, and offers both a cloud-hosted version and a server-based version where you choose where the data lives. Reviews and third-party guides describe a steep learning curve and a dated interface in places, and suggest a dedicated administrator.

Practice coverage

Litify sells to PI firms, insurance defense, immigration and corporate legal departments.

SmartAdvocate lists PI, mass torts, workers' compensation, employment, Social Security, veterans affairs, family, criminal defense and more. Its workers' comp module tracks treatment toward MMI, stores impairment and PPD figures, and uses state form templates. If your firm runs comp or disability alongside PI, that breadth is a real advantage.

AI

  • Litify has Call Intelligence for intake calls, a Damages Assistant that builds a source-linked chronology and reconciles bills, and Instant Demands, launched June 2026 and powered by Supio. When damages reach a threshold you set, it drafts the demand and a cited exhibit packet for attorney review. Litify also lists agents for total policy, case value and strengths and weaknesses.
  • SmartAdvocate launched SmartIntelligence in August 2026: summaries of records, motions, briefs and depositions, case chat that cites its sources, translation and transcription, a settlement value assistant, customizable agents, and an MCP server so outside AI tools can connect.

Litify has gone further on demands inside the product. SmartAdvocate leaves more room for outside AI, and both EvenUp and Supio name it.

Cost and implementation

Neither publishes prices. Capterra lists SmartAdvocate from $109 per user without saying what that covers. A third-party guide estimates SmartAdvocate implementation at $10,000 to $25,000. We found no reliable public estimate for Litify's price; a vendor's guide citing G2 buyer data puts Litify's average implementation at about six months. Ask both for a written quote that includes implementation, data migration, training and any AI add-ons.

Also count the people cost. A Salesforce-based system usually needs someone with Salesforce admin skills, and SmartAdvocate's configuration depth rewards a trained in-house administrator. Budget for that role either way.

Which one fits which firm

Choose Litify if you are a large PI firm that wants Salesforce underneath, has or will hire admin skills, and wants demands drafted inside the case.

Choose SmartAdvocate if you run several plaintiff practices, want to self-host or keep data on your own server, or want the flexibility to plug in EvenUp, Supio or other tools.

Before you sign with either, ask:

  • Who on our staff will administer it, and what training does that person need?
  • What does the first year cost in total, including implementation, migration, training and AI features?
  • Which AI features are in the base price, and which are add-ons?
  • Can we talk to a firm our size that switched in the last year?
  • If we leave, how is our data exported?

Where PlaintiffStack fits

PlaintiffStack is a lighter option for California PI, workers' comp and employment firms: case management with AI case tools built in, at $250 per case with every app included and no monthly fee. AI usage is billed separately, with an estimated cost before each run. Admins add pages, fields, phases and flows themselves, with an assistant that proposes each change for approval, so you don't need a platform consultant. It reads searchable files only, with no OCR yet, and has no trust accounting.
