Case managementReviewed
Filevine alternatives for plaintiff firms
Filevine is configurable case management with the LOIS AI suite for law firms of many sizes and practice types, legal teams and agencies, with personal injury among its core markets. Here is what else firms weigh, and what each one is best for.
Why firms look beyond Filevine
- Implementation can run long: a Capterra reviewer described go-live dates slipping by months and firms hiring outside consultants.
- Price is quoted, and comparisons say AI tools such as MedChron are priced as separate add-ons that add up.
- Buyer guides say it works best with a dedicated system admin and takes more upfront training than simpler tools.
- One Capterra reviewer wrote that their firm had to threaten arbitration to get out of an AI product contract.
- California comp filing comes through a partner (Gemini Legal) rather than the core product.
The options
- 1.
PlaintiffStack
Case management and AI on one record- Built for
- High-volume plaintiff firms in California: personal injury, workers' comp and employment
- Price
- $250 per case, every app included, no monthly fee. AI usage is billed separately, with an estimate shown before each run.
- Bottom line
- Our own product, listed first because this is our page. It is young and California-only, and it doesn't read scanned records yet.
- 2.
Litify
Enterprise legal practice management built on Salesforce- Built for
- High-volume plaintiff firms, insurance defense firms, immigration firms and corporate legal teams
- Price
- Not published. A third-party comparison reports 20-license minimums and five-figure implementation fees; treat that as an estimate. Pricing for LitifyAI tools such as ACE and Instant Demands is not disclosed.
- Bottom line
- Litify is an enterprise platform on Salesforce with deep customization, an agent called ACE and Supio-powered Instant Demands. It suits large, multi-state firms with admins and a budget for implementation. PlaintiffStack is lighter and narrower: California PI, workers' comp and employment on one record, a published per-case price and no long contract.
- 3.
SmartAdvocate
Configurable case management for high-volume litigation, with built-in AI- Built for
- Personal injury, mass tort, workers' comp and other litigation firms that want deep configuration
- Price
- Not published by SmartAdvocate. Capterra lists a starting price of $109 per user per month, and G2 lists an enterprise option starting at $1,995 with a perpetual-license choice. Third-party estimates put implementation at $10,000 to $25,000. Treat these as estimates. SmartIntelligence pricing is not disclosed.
- Bottom line
- SmartAdvocate is a long-established, highly configurable platform with modules for mass torts, workers' comp and more, a large integration list and a new AI layer, SmartIntelligence. PlaintiffStack is younger and narrower, with California PI, comp and employment built in, page-cited AI and a published per-case price. Firms that want to configure everything, across states, will find more room in SmartAdvocate.
- 4.
Needles and Neos
Personal injury case management from Assembly Software: on-premise Needles and its cloud successor, Neos- Built for
- Personal injury firms, including the large base of firms still running Needles or TrialWorks on their own servers
- Price
- Neos publishes two tiers: Essentials at $109 and Premium at $139 per user per month, billed yearly. Platinum, which includes NeosAI, is quoted, and Demands Plus is an add-on on Platinum whose cost scales with caseload. Third-party listings show other figures (for example $99, $129 and $179), so confirm with Assembly. On-premise Needles pricing is not published.
- Bottom line
- Assembly has built PI case management for over 40 years, and Neos gives Needles firms a familiar path to the cloud, published prices for its first two tiers, OCR and an AI tier with cited chronologies and demands. PlaintiffStack is younger and narrower: California PI, workers' comp and employment on one record, with every app in one per-case price. A national PI firm that likes how Needles works will feel at home in Neos.
- 5.
CasePeer
Personal injury case management with published per-user prices- Built for
- Personal injury firms, especially those without dedicated IT staff who want PI workflows preconfigured
- Price
- Published: Basic $90, Pro $130 and Advanced $160 per user per month, with no long-term contract or setup fee. Intake, two-way texting and 8am IQ start at Pro.
- Bottom line
- 8am CasePeer is a straightforward, PI-only system with published prices, no long-term contract and PI tools such as settlement negotiations, treatment tracking and statute alerts, backed by the company behind MyCase and LawPay. PlaintiffStack adds California workers' comp and employment, page-cited AI case tools and a per-case price, but it has fewer integrations and no trust tracking. A PI-only firm that wants simple and proven may prefer CasePeer.
- 6.
CloudLex
Personal injury case management with built-in AI and optional paralegal services- Built for
- Plaintiff personal injury firms, with most published reviews coming from small firms
- Price
- Not published. CloudLex sells Professional, Advanced and Enterprise packages through a demo, and doesn't publish prices for Lexee AI or its paralegal services.
- Bottom line
- CloudLex is PI-only case management with an AI layer, Lexee, and a bench of human paralegal services, from records retrieval to chronologies and a bilingual call center. It suits PI firms that want software and outsourced help from one vendor. PlaintiffStack covers California PI, workers' comp and employment on one record with a published per-case price, but it offers no outsourced staff and doesn't read scanned records yet.
Choosing an alternative to Filevine
Litify and SmartAdvocate are the usual shortlist: Litify for firms that want Salesforce and enterprise AI, SmartAdvocate for deep configuration and a broad module list. Neos suits PI firms that want published prices and a vendor with decades in PI.
Yes. 8am CasePeer publishes $90, $130 and $160 per user per month. Neos publishes Essentials at $109 and Premium at $139 per user per month, billed yearly. PlaintiffStack publishes $250 per case with every app included, plus AI usage billed separately.
Your contract's end date and notice terms, any separate AI add-on agreements, how you will export documents and custom fields, and how long the new vendor needs to move and check your data.
